There are three forms of financial aid that you can get in USA:
- loans
- gift aid (such as grants and scholarships)
- work-study
You are interested in the second one. You can receive a scholarship based on different criteria – academic, athletic or creative ability. You can be awarded for personal essay as well or if you are a student aiming particular fields of study and if you live in a certain area or region. Some bursaries are awarded because of financial needs.
Unfortunately, there is little financial aid available from US sources for the international students, but there still are some ways to find yourself some help for paying for university. You should also be aware of the fact that there is a lot of competition for the international student scholarships. In order to be chosen your high grades are very important. The most disseminated aid is for graduate and research students, but there are not so many for undergraduate study.
If you need help for your education, another way is to seek a scholarship in your home country. There are many organizations willing to send students abroad. No need to mention that your grades should be satisfactory for the particular organization. You can also contact your Ministry of Education in order to find out the government options to study abroad. If you don’t try you will never know what chances you have.
